First CSI 300 ETF Listed In Hong Kong

W.I.S.E.-CSI 300 China Tracker, first ETF product designed to track the performance of the CSI 300 Index, was listed on the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong (“SEHK”) yesterday. At the same time, it was admitted to the list of designated securities eligible for short selling. On the initial day it opened at HK$ 42.45 and closed at the highest price HK$ 43.7, with a turnover of HK$ 159 million.
W.I.S.E.-CSI 300 China Tracker was developed and managed by BOCI-Prudential Asset Management Limited ("BOCI-Prudential"). It was reported that, the index compiler China Securities Index Co.,Ltd.(“CSI”) and BOCI-Prudential signed an index licensing agreement on July 12, 2006. After a year’s efforts, W.I.S.E.-CSI 300 China Tracker was successfully listed in Hong Kong, being the first ETF product tracking the CSI 300 Index in oversea market and providing another effective tool for oversea investors to invest mainland’s A shares market.
Mr. Tang Jinsong, Chairman of CSI, said at the listing ceremony, “It is the first time that CSI index presents itself on the stage of international capital market, I believe in the near future, in order to meet the high demand of investment from the equity market, innovative financial tools and operation mode based on the aggregate index across Shanghai and Shenzhen markets will become more and more.”
